What's the average hourly rate for a senior public relations / media relations service provider? Been charging $100 an hour for the past seven years and haven't increase my rates for PR services. The cost of doing business for me has gone up by leaps and bounds, especially the cost of healthcare and the cost of database subscriptions -- like Bacons, Luce, Burelles, PR Newswire and such. I'm thinking that $150 to $200 is typical for an independent and senior PR representative (been working since the mid 80s). What's your take on what the average rate should be for PR services now - 7 years later.

Media Relations questions for Boston Bruins? wrote an article about the Boston Bruins hockey team for my high school paper. I asked to use a photo from the Bruins website and the Media Relations person agreed to let me use the picture and asked me to send him the article. I was going to include a letter, just thanking him and telling him about the paper, but I have a huge interest in sports writing and I wondered if there was something I could include that would possibly let me get more backstage/press view of the team.. I know its a long shot but I was just wondering if any of you had any suggestions.

I am looking for a public relations job in Calgary, Ab. Can anyone help me? I am 43 years old and a former award-winning Canadian journalist. My strengths lie in the area of media relations, government relations, aboriginal relations and issues management. I am a seasoned communicator, creative, educated and worldly. I have worked across North America, including the Arctic, Ottawa and Washington. I have also worked in South America and the U.K. With my background and skill set, I believe I am well suited for just about any position in corporate communications and public affairs. As an “out-of-the-box” team leader, I have a reputation for getting the job done. In addition to be an excellent communicator, I am a strategist, a facilitator, an ideas person, a role model, hard working, loyal and ethical. I am looking to work for a company that shares the same values and principles as I do – honesty, success and reward. If you know of a job that would match my skills, I would be happy to hear from you

I am just about to complete my degree majoring in advertising, but have decided that there would be nothing worse than sitting behind a desk every day. Therefore i decided to join advertising/ media relations with physical demands. I was just wondering whether anyone knows what a Public relations officer actually does on a daily basis? Further, whether it will involve outdoor activities, or sitting behind a desk in Canberra or something?
Does the media constantly referring to race help or hurt the race relations in this country (U.S.)? Constantly referring to Obama as the first Black President. Constantly referring to Sotomayor as the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. And now, the Cambridge incident. Do these, and other stories in the press, help or hurt race relations in this country? Would it improve if the media left race out of the stories? Instead of constantly referring to Obama as the first Black President, just calling him the 44th President.
