Is there a list of the most common words in headlines of newspaper articles? Or at least a big listing of the actual headlines used in media articles? Is there somewhere online I could find this? I'm looking for the top 1000 or so words that are used in newspaper headlines. I am assuming the word 'the', 'a', etc. top the list, but want to know the rest because it may be slightly different from just a general top 1000 most common english words. My linguistics project needs this info!
Where can I find newspaper headlines of the Spanish-American War? I'm doing an assignment in my US history class and I'm supposed to be writing on how yellow journalism affected the US's decision to wage war with the Spanish in the war and I was thinking of using some newspaper quotes and headlines of events such as the USS Maine sinking. I already know what the headlines are, but I need to find a site where they have pictures and scans of the actual articles so I can cite them in my paper. And please don't give me sites of archives, I've already looked around with no luck.
does anyone know where you can see the newspaper headlines/front page for the day you were born, for free? I'm doing a project which requires me to dig up the newspaper headlines for the day I was born (in 1987). Does anyone know where you can see archives for this purpose? I know you can pay to have the entire paper delivered to you for certain US newspapers, but I just need to see headlines/ front page articles, preferably for the Straits Times (Singapore's national newspaper), or if not, then for any New York-based paper. Any tips or advice would be appreciated! =) thanks!
What's that SNL skit with a guy reading newspaper headlines and giving his thoughts? It's on weekend update...I think he was a younger-guy, maybe college aged. He had a stack of newspapers and would read a headline, and then offer his analysis of each one...except that he wouldn't really say anything...just like "Come on people...I mean....the thing is....what the...it's like....i mean come on..." Basically he would just start and stop sentences...and somehow it was hilarious. And I don't know how to find it!

Question about newspaper and magazine headlines? I'm looking for the term for a headline in a newspaper or magazine that doesn't contain any verbs and is more of a title or label with a subhead that explains what the story is about. e.g.: "No Middle Ground" as the title, with the subhead: "Cowboys and Giants face off for NFC East lead" I have heard the "No Middle Ground" referred to as a "hammer head." That's a new one on me, but it's been 11 years since I graduated from j school. Is there another name for this type of head?

Thank you so much for what you have said in support of the police. God bless you honey.
